Forged.ie is an independent editorial guide to Irish stout. The headline coverage is Forged Irish Stout — the McGregor-owned 2023 entrant — but the wider scope is the whole Irish stout scene: the four heritage breweries, the modern craft producers, the style itself, and where to buy what.
What this site is
A small, independently run editorial site, hosted in Ireland, written by someone who likes stout and finds the absence of fair editorial coverage of the Irish stout scene irritating. There's plenty of marketing copy and plenty of cursory blog roundups; what there isn't enough of is honest comparison, factual sourcing and clear writing that doesn't sell you something at the end.
Every named brewery, every fact about a beer's ABV or brewery or launch date is verified at build time against the brewery's own published information. If something on this site is wrong, email hello@forged.ie and it'll be fixed.
What this site isn't
- Not the Forged brand site. The official site is forgedirishstout.com. That's where the brand's marketing, retail finder and corporate information live.
- Not affiliated with any brewery. No payments accepted, no sponsored reviews, no brand-led editorial.
- Not selling Forged Irish Stout. No commerce on this site. Where-to-buy links go to the breweries' or retailers' own pages.
Editorial principles
- Verify named facts. ABV, brewery, founding date, ownership — checked against each brewery's own published sources. We do not invent statistics.
- Tasting notes from real tastings. Each note is written from a real session, with the can or pint specified. We don't recycle the marketing copy.
- Fair comparisons. Where we score a beer (3.4/5 in the case of Forged), we explain why. Where we'd recommend a different beer in the same situation, we say which.
- No fake quotes. No statements are attributed to real public figures unless those statements are verifiably on the public record.
- No logos. We do not reproduce brand logos on the site. Brand names appear in plain text.
